Poseidon
Many things about this film bug me. I think it is a failed attempt to remake what was a great film. (And yes, using different characters with the same story is a remake.) Now, I can't say that this was true to the book its based on, because I never read it. So I'll go on my opinion alone. This film received 'rave' reviews for its expertise in water effects. I have to agree. It looks like real water. It acts like real water. But the wide shots are clearly CG. How do I know this? Well, they told us. I was very happy that they kept the wide shots to a minimum and didn't over-do it with sweeping shots revolving around the ship. I like CG and all, but great films have great stories and are told in a somewhat realistic way. This was not a film by any of these standards. It was an effects flick.
I'm not sure where the characters were coming from and there was little thought given to what needed to be shown and what could just be skimmed over. The focus was clearly on the water.
